I would say what was inept was his posturing and promising during the campaign and after he was in office regarding Gitmo. I know it played well to the left wing nuts but it was imprudent at best, especially since we know he gets national security briefings during the campaign.

But after he got to office it moved squarely into the inept category when they actually started to make plans to move the Gitmo detainees to the U.S. First of all no one wanted them other than some misguided politicians who were quickly slammed by the public and had to backtrack. Secondly, only the ACLU and left wing nuts wanted these terrorists afforded all the constitutional protections as well as the cost and danger of criminal trials in our public court system. Finally, as the Messiah has learned about a goodly number of things the Bush administration was not only prudent in using Gitmo but wise.

And I disagree that Gitmo has to close. As long as we have enemy combatants that do not wear a uniform and conduct terrorist attacks we will need somewhere to house them, fatten them up, try them and execute them. And it is not going to be here in the U.S. I say Club Gitmo stays open as long as we need it.......
