I own After Hours Truck Repair in Red Hill, AL., I repair approx. 150 pontoons a year (alum. welding) In the last 5 years I have had only two that needed repairs to the bottom of the pontoons. The majority of repairs have been on boats that stay in the water year round, these repairs being to the splash fins or where the flanges weld to the tube at the stern. This being said, pontoons that have flotation material inside them are harder to repair because the material is flammable and it blows the weld out. If you are worried about  your boat striking an object and sinking it would have to be one very large hole, because the majority of your pontoons now in production are made of two or three seperate cells. In addition to this the only proper way to repair a pontoon is to weld it, the epoxy repair kits that are on the market seem like a good idea, the problem is the aluminum expands and contracts more than the epoxy will allow. So if I was in the market for buying a new pontoon boat it would definatly be filler free!
