That's what politicians do. It is a dire situation, no doubt, but it is not as critical to AC as some are leading you to believe. How many sprinkler systems are run into the lake? AC getting water is the exact same principal, only on a larger scale. Why the team of experts? Only the Mayor can answer that, but in most cases when it is not your money you are spending, folks go to extremes. The ole CYA theory.
Now when addressing the ENTIRE river system (ACT), yes things are getting critical!! This has been my position all along. So many folks on this forum are only concerned about how it affects THEM. They have shown nothing but disdain for anyone, be it individual, town or industry, downstream. They feel like all the water should be held in Lake Martin. To what end? So it will be easier for us to PLAY next year. Sorry, that doesn't cut it in my world. Having seen folks worry about their JOBS from day to day in '88, I understand how critical river flows are. OSMS has harped on the dredging barge downstream as if that was the only downstream issue. It isn't. Not even close. And to be ready to toss aside the wood chip plant and the associated jobs because they 'only' spent 9.3 million to build it shows and arrogance I can't begin to comprehend. Not to mention the millions spent on the dredging project to date that would have been wasted. But to him it doesn't matter, as long as he gets to keep water in Lake Martin, beside it was federal money, not state. <sarcasm off>
I love this lake more than any ten of you. I claim to have lake water in my veins instead of blood. Almost all of my greatest memories in life involve the lake in one way or another. But I also love my fellow man. IF that means I have to suffer through another summer of lower that normal water, so be it. I will NEVER put my recreation above the lives and jobs of others downstream. And yes, I know it affects the lives and jobs of some folks here too. As I have stated over and over, some of these folks are my friends. But the reality is, those are a small minority compared to the rest of us to whom it is simply recreation.
There is still LOTS of water out there to enjoy. Some ramps will get extended this winter. The rains will come. The lake will rise. You can quote me on that!!
