Subject:   About domestic ducks--

At one time (and probably still the case) there were laws preventing the release of domestic animals into the wild. Domestic animals included normal farm animals and pets, along with native wildlife raised and bred in captivity. Changes were made for hunting preserves (re: quail, etc.). As far as I know, no migratory laws were changed.
Now getting to the crux, how can someone have the wings of mallards, and some other type of duck, clipped and release them into Lake Martin?
Of the ones released, 5 are still around. The others were probably eaten by predators.
Supposedly, the person that did this is feeding them and I guess he thought they would stay at his place. (Well, they don't!)
So besides goose poop, we have duck poop to dodge.
My experience with domestic ducks on a lake is not good. When the water goes down and there's not enough vegetation for food, and the "feeder" slacks up, those things are going to end up in every flower pot on every porch around. They will also get into any bait containers left unattended and anywhere else they can find something to eat.
So, if you know of anyone doing this or planning to do it, they need to be warned of the hazards, that include the above plus the additional fecal matter added to the water.
Thanks
