Our firm was recently hired by one of the parties involved in the spill in the gulf. It is absolutely astounding the amount of money and resources being applied to solve this problem. Regardless of what you hear in the media, all the parties are doing everything humanly possible to try to stop the flow of oil and deal with that already released. This is a tragedy but from my vantage point we will get through it and it will be cleaned up.

Sadly what will also happen is the parties will pay billions of dollars to the federal and state governments that will just go into the general fund and never result in a penny spent on restoration or cleanup. For the life of me I can't figure out why they need to not only pay all the private entities for their actual damages, pay to clean up the spill and then pay government much more money than the other two areas and for what? If there is a fine make them do a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) so the money actually benefits the environment and not fatten the bank accounts of the government.
