Several reasons for the lack of coverage. First, it is flyover country. They didn't vote for Obama. There were no aggrieved protected classes impacted so no political points to be scored. And most importantly, the state is run by responsible politicians that know how to take care of a problem instead of deflecting blame elsewhere and whining about the lack of Federal gov't involvement.

Just look at the difference between Louisiana and Mississippi post Katrina. Competence v. incompetence.
