I don't think the lake itself makes enough difference from surrounding areas to matter. Water has a moderating effect, but the lake is small in the big scheme of things. The last freeze is usually early to mid march. Also, the soil around the lake varies greatly and should be considered. You can find anything from solid rock to sand and clay and a considerable range in PH.
