They shouldn't be in the retirement business at all. My point, which was obviously lost on you, is that this is yet another example of the multitude of things that govt does NOT do well. Let me make myself clear so you will understand what I am saying. Social security was never meant to be a permanent retirement fund for seniors. Hell, even FDR knew that when it was created, or maybe he just lied to the American people. Who knows and for all practical purposes who cares.

But if either you or I created a similar fund and sold it to seniors and "invested" the funds the way the govt does (and maybe needs to for all I know), we would be put in jail. In your incessant desire to focus on all the wrong things you again miss the most important point. Had everyone been able to opt out of SS back before they closed the loophole we would all be infinitely better off. And the govt would not have this huge entitlement that is headed toward fiscal oblivion because Democrats chose to demonize any responsible politican that wants to fix it.

Honestly, the ignorance elf the left is without any bounds......
