I am not even sure why this is worth a response.....Chafee lost his Senate seat in a blue state, barely won as Governor (plurality of the vote), is deeply unpopular and was looking at losing as an Independent so the switch is a desperation move that has not been warmly welcomed by the state party. Good chance he will be primaried as a Dem because the Chafee name is not popular with Dems.

But more to the point the guy endorsed SOTUS in 2008 and 2012, spoke at the Democrat convention in 2012 and was encouraged by the Dem Governors association to make the switch.
