Considering the context of when the 2nd Amendment was written, you are exactly right.  It's never been clear to me why liberals want to control everything, yet they claim to be so worried about human rights.  When you think of it - they want to impose gun control on every American citizen, on the chance that it will stop one unknown lunatic from killing other people - yet they fail to realize that they can never control the black market gun sales from which the guns used in the vast majority of everyday crimes, come from.  It's lunacy.  

Why not control SSDI better to keep the large majority of people who collect, from collecting benefits when they could obviously do some something in terms of work - especially considering we have an Americans with Disabilities Act that requires employers to make reasonable accomodations?
