It was indeed a Sea-Doo, and an old-school one at that. I mean really, really old. They eventually managed to not only keep running it around but to stall it, with the battery not able to restart.

Watched them push it about 100', then cruised out to give them a tow. On the way one mentioned they were "running out some old gas, that was 2+ years old." Your suggestion is exactly what I told them, as no amount of running it was going to fix the mess inside.....
