Look up SEI Outdrives. Brand new drives are around 1400. They are an exact duplicate of the Merc outdrives at a fraction of the price. Go to IBOATS.com and do a search on them. I have not seen a single complaint from anybody that has installed them. You can replace the whole outdrive with a new one for less than it would cost to repair the lower unit. Go ahead and figure in replacing the gimbal bearings, hoses, drive bellows and if it were me, the lower shift cables if they have not been replaced in the last 5 years. Hope this helped.
