2 things happen when full throttle is applied, fuel is pumped into the intake manifold and just sits there till it evaporates. I wouldn't be as concerned with that with a 4 stroke as I would with a 2 stroke and the oil that would remain. The other thing is the butterflies in the carbs remain open. More chances for something to enter the carbs, insects, etc. When I was turning wrenches, you'd be surprised how many mayflies I pulled out of carbs. But if cover can't be modified, I don't think I'd be to concerned.
