I don't have a lonely world.  Where I am from, we have a hertiage of the Revolutionary War.  Plenty of history.  My family has been here for generations and generations.  

I think you can celebrate your "Southern Heritage" without waving around a Confederate Flag.  My family also fought in the Civil War, but for the North.  Yet I don't find any particular need to embrace it, even though the North won.  

While you may have never met a slave - nor have I, you have been around long enough to see segregation and the civil rights movement.
