I have been to Israel and been through their airport security. It is no joke. The screeners have the ability to pull anyone off the plane whom they feel suspicious about, and their decision is final. Also they no only Xray every bag, but they also open every suitcase and go through it. And they wand everyone. It is clear that they take it very, very seriously, and you don't want to even think about complaining.

I believe that the terrorists will attack the US again. They know that they don't have to do anything as big as 9/11. All it would take is a small dirty bomb on a subway and people would be totally freaked out. I lived through the Antrax threat in DC and I can tell you that my employees were terrified. Because of traces of Antrax found at the State Department mail room, we had to have our offices tested and swept. It's a very scary feeling when the guys in the bio-hazard suits are sweeping your office.

As far as planning, After 9/11 and Antrax, I had to prep an orgaziation for possible terrorist attacks. This included handing out safe masks, and talking to them about keeping a supply of medicine and other personal items in the office, in case we had to lock down. The most important thing is to think about what you would do, so that you don't panic when it happens. Panic will cause people to do things that they might not otherwise do; and panic is contagious.

Finally, I can tell you that on 9/11 as I left my office, I saw the sign that said that we were at DEFCON "D". I never though I would see that sign in my lifetime. It really made me think.
