Lake Watch volunteers tested 8 sites on the lake yesterday with personnel from Auburn University's Department of Fisheries and got the lowest secchi disk readings (water clarity test method) in many years. In some places (Sandy Creek, Coley Creek, dam forebay) the clarity was even lower than last month which we thought was the worst ever.

The tests are part of an in-depth 1-year water quality study funded by Alabama Power Company as part of the Martin Dam relicensing process. We have one more month of testing to do and hope the study results will be available to the public by early summer.

To Webmaster Bruce: I'll make you a deal. If you post the video of the testing process you took last year, I'll see if the test results can be made available for the Forum. Now that's a deal you can't refuse.

Incidentally, we're currently working on a funding grant to study and determine the sources of sedimentation upstream in the watershed.
