Curiously enough, the C5 never really had a name that stuck. The first "A" models that rolled off the line were called "The box that the 141's came in" and there have been local names but not a name that applied th o the fleet. The 5 is currently undergoing modifications to it's avionics and propulsion. The new engines (GE CF6's) will produce 22% greater thrust (Derated) 30% less take off roll & almost 60% less in time to climb. I think it can handle the shorter runways better now with cargo & fuel load
