There were also many in Congress (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) that exacerbated (Archie: made worse) the problems in the banking system. What is wrong with the template of the media and the current political leadership is that the current mess was a result of "deregulation" as if the financial system went from "regulated" to "unregulated". Nothing could be further from the truth. Regardless of the regulatory changes fomented (Archie: done) by the Clinton administration the financial services industry (which includes banking) is still one of the most highly regulated industries in our country. Remember, the Fed controls all monetary policy. Name any other private industry that is so fundamentally impacted by a government entity (except the military).
