Agreed – the Wiki “assault weapon” is the political term, which like “Saturday night special” (the political definition, not the song) can mean just about anything. The original definition would have left out far too many weapons, such as those that chamber a rifle cartridge- ie 7.62 x 51 (308 Winchester) vs. 5.56 x 45 (almost 223 Remington). As far as the rifle described, when chambered in 5.56, it is very enjoyable to shoot – and as yourself, I do not hunt unless you call shooting paper and those ever-present deadly cans hunting. The accuracy of these rifles when setup properly and with the right ammunition is as good as most bolt guns out there, and they are commonly used for hunting prairie dogs. As far as home defense – I prefer a 45 ACP, either a 1911 or S&W M&P (same type action as Glock), and my boss prefers a 12 ga. Pump. There are those who argue that an AR with 55 grain 5.56 is preferable, but for “House Clearing 501” I prefer to give the baddies as little to grab and torque as possible. I truly hope that we never have to put our skills to the test, but you know the old saying that “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
