Recently my niece stayed at the lake and sent me a photo of a critter found in my breakfast room. It definitely looks like a scorpion. What a shock! I have never heard anything about scorpions in Alabama. My parents have lived there for 30 years. Please tell me what to do to prevent ever being stung/bitten, about keeping them out of the house and trapping them. Thanks, hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

there are scorpions all over Alabama. They usually start showing up in the lake houses when the weather has turned cool and dry, a little warm spell makes them active. As a rule their sting to adults is harmless except for the sting. Spray or fog the house. You will also find plenty of lady bugs around too.

I got popped by one a few years ago in the boathouse.  I equate the feeling to that of a wasp sting.  I have a big problem with them in the boathouse where it stays somewhat damp (that end is well under ground level).  They like to get under things like old paint cans, gas cans etc.  I have seen a few inside the house, but they are most often wheels up.  It appears to me that my normal pest control for the large roaches (a never ending battle for any lake owner) also kills the scorpions.  Let your pest control company know you have seen them in case they need to change the formula.

Constant problem at our place. Seems like we find one every week. We have learned to deal with it... I would say one of 10 is actually alive when we discover it.

I've been handling scorpions for 30 years with quarterly professional pest control and a dust buster.  I also get ccentipedes or millipedes (I haven't counted their legs yet) which will also sting you.  I've found dead ones all over the hhouse.  I've tried diazanon granules around the exterior doors but that doesn't seem to slow them down.

Bought a new place that was buggy to say the least. A couple rounds of black flag no-mess foggers and the scorpions, millipedes, roaches, et al have virtually vanished. Whereas we had multiple sightings initially, I have only seen one scorpion and one millipede in the last couple months. Put one in every 1000 SF or so and come back after a few hours and you ought to have done some serious damage to the little buggers. Would recommend doing this monthly. Cheap, clean, and obviously effective!
