Hello! I just recently bought a cabin on the lake and am learning my way around! I'm near Niffers on Blue Creek. I am a runner and am trying to find safe places to run outside. I'm use to going out my front door when at home with lots of sidewalks so unless I'm meeting a friend, I don't want to drive to Auburn everytime I want to run. I have gone to one trail and done some grass running against traffic. I was curious if anyone could recommend some locations or areas that are preferably not going to take me longer to drive than run. :) I'm open to any ideas from local school tracks, trails, to neighborhoods.

Not a runner, but I have driven most of the roads around the South end of LM looking for property. Mostly tar and gravel road surfaces leading from HWY 49 or HWY50 toward the LM Dam into established neighborhoods. Very little traffic on these roads and the wildlife you might encounter would be an extra. Turner Road/Centerport Road/Castaway Island Road/ etc. Park a car and run. Meet your neighbors too!!

I am not a "runner", but do need to excercise. I will "walk" with you, and there are many places to do so. I can only go a couple of days a week. Email and we will get together. Steve

Missed you Saturday at CatHouse LM. First time there. Looks great!! and we got a warm welcome from the staff there. Looking forward to Spring, warmer weather, higher water, and a lighter dress code.

Wife and I are walkers, not runners. Since you are new, you may not know that Stillwaters once had two golf courses. One closed some years ago. The present course allows us to walk the old course using cart paths that are blacktop. Have not measured, but the paths would certainly stretch for two or more miles. If you go the the currrent pro shop, they can direct you to the begining of these paths. They are very near the present golf course. Lots of ups and downs, but safe since you pass behind homes that were once on the golf course. For me, a golfer, sad to see the fairways and greens now abondoned where I had so much fun playing in the past.

I think the Stillwaters idea suggested above is a good idea.

Also might try the neighborhoods of The Harbor and Marina Marin off of Overlook Drive (on Hwy 50 towards dam).  The Harbor also has access to a couple of the Cherokee Ridge Trails (http://www.cherokeeridgealpinetrail.org/index.htm)

You also just missed the annual Russell Forest Run 10k and 5k on 2-26-11.

Russell Forest has about 40 miles of trails and dirt roads to run though they might be 30 minutes by car from where you are.  I ran the 10k for the 2nd time, it was a really fun race.

Welcome to the lake! I think the Stillwaters Ex Golf Course is an excellent idea as well. Are you located in the condos next to Niffers? If so, I'm right across 49 near Lakeside Marina. When you come down your driveway to 49 I am directly in front of you. The house with the Brick front. You shouuld swing by some time when you see the Maroon truck in front of the house! Lots of Forum members in our area.

THANK YOU! No, I did not know this! I can't tell you how excited I am to run them! I have a gps watch so I can figure out how far they are. I just NEED a place that is convenient and I can't get much more convenient than that.

Thanks! I'm in the row of cabins right on the water. I'm already in love with this area!

Steve, I'm running 12 miles in Auburn tonight as I'm training for a half marathon... I might not be able to walk tomorrow! I travel for work so we will mostly be weekend residents but when I can work from home, I'm trying to work out here. I'll let you know the next time I get to work remotely from the lake (I'm traveling the next two weeks definitely).
