  • Can anyone tell me when the last budget was delivered by the President to Congress?
  • Why are we constantly enduring these “continuing resolutions”?
  • What happens when a business does not have a budget?
  • What happens when a family does not have a budget?
  • What is the relationship between credit cards and continuing resolutions?
  • Who underwrites private citizens who run into the limits on their credit cards (hint: lawyers are involved)?
  • Of what value is a balanced budget amendment?

Do you actually prepare a budget each January and, if so, does your wife get to vote on it?

Uh… nosy mullet, we do it quarterly.  Because my military service required my wife to handle extended periods of time without me, she has ALWAYS handled the bills, bank accounts, and savings. Therefore she is a critical part of decision making.  Because we worked TOGETHER on MAINTAINING a budget… we have NO debt.

The budget is an Excel spreadsheet (previously on ledger paper).  Occasionally folks ask us how we managed to make it to retirement this way. We have a blank (Excel) budget… where all one has to do is fill in the numbers.  We offer it to those whom we know… and ask for it.

Good story that the younger generaion should follow. My parents instilled in me a philosophy of not buying an item ulnless you could pay for it or pay the balane at month end. Few years ago, I received a small increase in my boat insurance and called Progressive. They told me on a scale of 1-10, I was rated at a 2 or a 5% increase in premium. I asked why? There response was rather amazing...they said my credit report did not show I had a credit card before I was 30. They stated that an insured with credit before 30 that is paid on time is a better risk. I explained paying cash before 30 to no avail.

Yes... we got that same story on why our credit score was only in the 830s... lack of revolving credit with a balance!

In your generation, as well as mine, you were actually expected to honor credit extended to you by making the payments. You also were assumed to know how to balance income against expense.
You were also trained/expected to HONOR tradition, seniority, courtesy, honesty, law and order, common sense. These values have been lost somehow.
Therefore, you and I,sir, are Dummies for even asking these questions that you posted. Who cares, anyway??

Mack,

To answer your Who Cares question, it is very apparent that GFY and his ilk don't care.  Maybe I should make the answer, "anybody that voted for omama certainly doesn't care.  All they can say is, "Gimme my free chit and let the republicans worry about it and pay for it."

Fact is the House has passed numerous budgets over the years that the Senate has refused to vote on because they have a number of a Senators in red states that would lose their seats if they voted no. Hence the need for CR's. This entire budget impasse is the result of Dems led by TOTUS and Harry Reid......but don't expect left wing nuts to understand this, they get their news from pmsNBS, aBS, cBS et al. They are simply ignorant of government and believe so much that simply isn't true.
