My wife and I are considering moving from Auburn to an interior home in Stillwaters. We would be commuting to Auburn, and were windering what people's opinion on Stillwaters was? Is it quiet, peaceful, safe etc.? Thanks for any insight you can give.

Never lived there but I play golf there regularly. They have a security gate going in although there is a lot of transient traffic related to the marina and golf course but they record each license plate going in.  I would suspect it is very quiet and more safe than the safe areas around it.

I've sold several homes to folks in Stillwaters.  They all seem to be happy living there and everyone chooses the area for different reasons.  HOA fees are relatively low; security seems good; it's a quiet place overall.  One major negative - no pizza delivery!

Nobody - we're on Pace's Peninsula too!  The best we can do is go to Store 34...gas station pizza!

Only if you know how to cook with a BGE.  And you don't.

That's easy, ask a neighbor that has water access to take you to Chucks.

We have lived, for the past five years, in StillWaters... in the interior.  We find the environment to be very pleasant.

As you penetrate farther in from StillWaters Drive or Moonbrook Dr., the park-like landscaping and grooming understandably fade.  However; the StillWaters Residential Associations maintains the roads to their termini (terminuses?).  The covenants are (rightfully) strict but not strictly enforced unless a violation become flagrant.

Personally we do not mind the 40 minute drive into Auburn.

StillWaters is truly (mostly) a retirement community... it is perfectly safe and not at all unusual to drive about on your personal golf cart.

Crime is scarce as your vehicle is on video as you come and go. The unattended back gate is CLOSED at 1100. The front gate is manned 24 hrs. We have an onsite volunteer fire and rescue service.

If you are a regular attendee of protestant denomination, there are several very welcoming and gracious churches right outside the gate… and in the summer, the pavilioned “Church of the Living Waters” is right on StillWaters and on the lakefront.

Issues concerning the golf course and clubhouse/ (non) restaurant are still in flux. The golf course is expensive and difficult unless you are a fairly good player… it is unforgiving if you are not. If you have a boat, Harbor Pointe Marina is expensive!

Thanks for the responses. Maj those are some helpful tips you have provided, the golf course ownership and overall financial status of the development was a concern I forgot to mention in my original post. We have driven through Stillwaters a few times now and I love the peacefulness it seems to provide for residents. We will definitely keep looking there. Thanks again to everyone.

As with any community with a homeowner's association I would ask for a balance sheet on the association. You will be assuming future obligations that may be not easily recognized. A good realtor will help guide you through the process.
