Do we need a " Power Boat Club " on Lake Martin? What will be the purpose of the club? What usefullness will it serve as for enhancing the tranquility of the lake for others? What contributions can it make to the betterment of the lake? Sound off.

I have no problems with a power boat club. But we will not be joining as we have a quiet, clean, peaceful, environmentally sound sailboat that actually requires skill and knowlege to manuver. Ha!

I hate to get involved in this post, but I have nothing else to do right now. Do we need a power boat club? Probably not! Will it serve as an enhancement?....Yea, just look at Russell Marine's, Anchor Bays and the other marina's deposit slips for fuel sold! I am sure they are happy to see Hot Boats pull up to the gas dock and pump out 200 gallons at $2.70 per gallon. (thats over $500.00 per boat). While we are there, we need ice, beverages and enough supplies to get us to Chucks Marina for great pizza, food and fun. (spending more money, it's called economic growth, if we had a club, they would probably reserve us the entire bar and restaurant). Now, for tranquility issues, Power boats don't do much for that at all. We like loud stereos, loud engines (Mercury Marine spends millions in research on powerful engines, and that filters down to all of us, even your puny little quite outboard). I was told that the recent poker run provided over $10,000 in cash for the local Lions Club. Involved were power boats, pontoon boats, personal watercraft (dont think a sail boat would be done with the run by now) all playing together. Some of us ran the poker run at fast speeds, others slow speeds, but we all played well together. (We learned that in kindergarden) Thats the way it should be. Most Powerboat owners spend countless dollars on the best safety equipment, steering systems, navagations aids and not to mention strict satety and maintainance schedules. (Again, we learned in high school/college, work hard, buy fast boats.....again, dollars = economics) Sorry for a long post, but... that's the way i see it.
Bling it on! I'll join the club.

..but what about the environment? ....what about the energy crisis?....what about the starving children in Africa? ...what about giving me some of that money!!!

is not going to be well received. I think a more positive attitude and a little less condescension would go a long way to make your point. Some will see that post as having arrogance too.

I don't see it that way. I think you were trying to make a point that you are a good citizen and make a contribution to the lake. At least I hope that's what you meant. Too bad, you missed a good opportunity.

I knew i should have left this one alone. Man, that is what i get for goofing off. No arrogance, really. I just saw opportunity for another view point. I am really outnumbered here i am sure. Good citizen? I sure try to be. My wife and two children enjoy the lake very much, just at a little different pace than the masses. Yea, I missed an opportunity for sure. But, the poker run was fun. How about a lake martin forum club, and we reserve chucks and hang out. I do maintainance and performance work for several on the lake, and it is as i said. Next time someone starts a post like this, name it "CAT BOAT, DONT REPLY CAUSE WE GONE GET YA". I should have paid more attention in school huh?

Cat Boat I don't see where anyone is out to get you. You just responded to a question posed to all. But to be honest I don't see where keeping the marinas filled with cash is bettering the lake. Except for a couple of independents Russell owns all of them. I respect your input but I don't have to agree with it.

True, Russell owns most of the marinas on the lake. Each time i visit them, they have more and more Power Boats in stock. 27' Fountains all the way up to 35" Fountains, each with monster power under the hatches with price tags up to $200,000! Do you really think they don't want Power boats there? I guess it's just a matter of opinion as far as bettering the lake goes. It's just the other end of the whole spectrum.

I think people having fun on the Lake whether in a powerboat or a sailboat contributes to the "betterment" of the Lake. Is there really an issue here?

Can't we all just get along? So some like this type boat versus that type.....so be it. There are roads all around us and some drive fast sports cars and then there are those of us that drive our truck and people dont seem to have an issue with the vartiety on our highways. Lake Martin is a wonderful recreational facility......go enjoy it with whatever "tickles your fancy".

Cat Boat,

Trust your instincts.

RoswellRic pontificating from his soapbox about positive attitude? This is the same clown whose response, when I asked about ramps back in February, was, “are you related to Col Tom”.

I just had to break out of read-only mode…guess I’m feeling particularly ugly this morning.

Is there a difference between "fun" and "fun at the expense of others?"

If your fun disrupts my fun, is that okay? Would that be considered "betterment" of the lake?

CAT BOAT sings>>>>"All you want to do ride along sally, .....ride sally ride". I could'nt help myself.

Wow, if that's what passes for clever in your household, I don't ever want to get anywhere near your house. (I saw Deliverance.)

"even your puny little quite outboard", "we all played well together. (We learned that in kindergarden)", "Again, we learned in high school/college, work hard, buy fast boats.....again, dollars = economics" "This is the same clown"

Sorry for what ever I did to get under your skin. I thoght this forum was for fun and discussion - not personal attacks.

Peace,

RR
