I vote for Sally to stay. As far as grammar is concerned she is right. I worked in industry for years and have seen men loose promotions because they didn't know the difference in " there ", " their ", and " they're ". This doesn't mean I'm against anyone else. She has a pet peeve and voiced it. Sally, welcome to the board.

Lakeman and I have found something we can agree on!!
You are right, Lakeman. I screen job applicants every week, and many of them never make it past the initial written application and into a face-to-face interview. Most of the time, it's not because the applicant isn't qualified (though he-- or she-- usually isn't), it's because the written application and/or resume shows a distinct lack of ability to communicate effectively. Poor spelling and improper grammar can mean several things, all of them bad: lack of intelligence, lack of knowledge, apathy or just plain carelessness; all of these are attributes that we do NOT want at our company. If you don't care enough about what you have to say to state it correctly, why should anyone care about it, either?
Effective use of language is the key to effective communication, and communication is the backbone of society. If you don't believe me, try to go an entire day without communicating with anyone. One of the things you'll learn is that your lack of communication is a form of communication itself, and the message is never positive.
P.S.-- I have to say this, Lakeman... you mean't "lose," not "loose." (Sorry.)

OOPS! I have a hard time with that one but what the heck. Sally doesn't need mine or anyone else's vote to join the forum but I enjoyed her contributions.

A lot of people place more thought into the clothes they wear and the car they drive than the way they present themselves in written form. When the only "view" you give to others is in written form (as in this forum, a job application, a letter to the editor, a complaint to a manufacturer or many other ways), your perceived credibility and intelligence are solely contained therein.
Everybody makes an occasional typo or grammatical error, especially in the "hit and run" communication of forums.
It is incredibly hard for people who place importance on these things to just ignore them. Hurray for Sally. She has standards.
As for me, I try to be correct. Sometimes, I'm not. Punctuation is my weakness.
I guess the thing is, if you don't know something, you don't know you don't know it. And therein lies the problem.
But I still like to hear everyone's opinion.

"Communication is the back bone", I sure wish you screened those drive through apps.

Sorry, it happens to all of us, I guess. It's not mean't -- it's meant.
