I wasn't kidding when I said that I wouldn't feel any joy if the "big boaters" and "go fast" crowd are denied the use of the lake. I know that many of you have a considerable investment involved. And, yes, the marina owners would suffer. They don't make much money on a gallon of gas but y'all buy a lot of gallons when you pull up to the pumps at the marinas and buy a lot of other things while you're being refueled.
It's no great mystery why the owners of these boats and the marina owners consider this proposed bill a bad thing. Just about everybody else will consider it a good thing. (By the way, it's an election year and the politicians don't do much for fear of alienating even a few voters). But the hand-writing is on the wall. If it doesn't happen this year it will certainly happen within a couple of years.
What is the alternative? No limits? Ever? Just let whatever happens-happen? I hate it for you, Sac. And I especially hate it for several of my friends who are in your situation. But it is inevitable. As for the 99%, it's probably nine-tenths of a point understated. Count the pontooners, pwc'ers, and sailors, along with all of the boats less than 30' 6" in length.
I was wrong about the 25 number as I neglected to consider the twin engine cabin cruisers. AnchorBayDon probably has that many at his marina. And there is a similar number at Kowaliga.

The problem I've got happens to be with the people who want to make my choices for me and didn't care to consult me first. Here, take it and shut-up types. I've lived around the lake all my life and I do miss the 60's & 70's quite part some, but it's history. It's progress for better or worse, accept it and deal with it. Just because someone shows up, buys lake property to use or retire on, what gives them to right to moan & complain about other people all the time and try to force their will on the neighbors. Move if you don't like it. Then they try to slip around and throw rocks (ie legislation) from behind the tree and have the "I'm so holy let's do it for the lake attitude" when in fact it is selfishness on their part. They want it all for themselves, self centered, self absorbed so called do gooders. I do agree that it seems to be overcrowding at times. I'm not big on PWC's or pontoon boats eventhough I own a PWC but I won't tell anyone they can' t for their pleasure. People need to get off their high horse and mind their own business and stop causing problem. The lake will be here long after we are gone. I say drive as fast as you want, buy what you want, be thoughtful of others, use common sense & if you don't you'll be sorted out by peer pessure or the law one. Now get off the length & horsepower issues.

Where do you live? Do the highway laws there say "drive as fast as you want?" You know that there are not enough marine police on Lake Martin to come anywhere close to policing that lake even if it did have speed limits, like every highway in America does. There are also laws all over America that tell Semi drivers that they can't drive down neighborhood streets.
The bottom line is nobody is telling you what kind of boat you can own. If this bill passes, which it should, you can take your big boat to the Gulf and roar around there like it was designed to.
