I think I have a little air in the trim hydaulic. Is it a difficult job to bleed the line? The trim up is sluggish and will stop, but then if I trim down and repeat then it will work again.

Actually it sounds more like a bad hydraulic to me. How old is the boat?

If you turn the motor off and just trim up is it a smooth sound or can you hear a fizz or air bubbling?

Bleeding the system has never been an issue for me as long as I keep the reservoir filled with fluid.

Just my thoughts, alot of people here know more than me.

you probably have a leak. the fluid is likely low. add some. and run it up and down a few times before you put the filler plug back in. check and see if you can add more after doing that.

if you can fill it up again. by now you should be able to trim without problems.

when the boat is off it will trim up but stops at about 1/ 4 of the way. then if I lower and repeat I can get it to go on up to 1/2. It seems that the more I use it the better it works. The boat is an 2002 sea ray.

I added fluid a few weeks ago and I haven't rechecked. I will check it this weekend. If it was leaking wouldn't I see the oil slick in my bildge?

not necessarily. it could be leaking on cylinders or hoses that are outboard.

i would bet that when you check it the level will be low. i had an outboard that i needed to put oil in every two weeks. i finally got some power steering stop leak fluid and put it in. after that i only had to add fluid once a season.

i don't know that i would recomend the power steering stop leak, it worked for me, but it might cause problems for others.

maybe catboat or anchorbaydon could inform you more on that.

You could have one or both trim cyl. leaking internally. When this happens, it will build pressure from both sides of the cyl. Call my shop, and we will fix the problem. We are very busy this week, because several are getting ready for the Tickfaw 200 pokerrun in New Orleans, but should be a pretty quick fix.
