on why Lake Martin is the Crown Jewel of the South.

Here are mine:

It is old enough to of brought a culture to it and a history.

It is clean and has a lot of shear undeveloped shoreline to enjoy.

A very large Lake with a lot of area to explore.

It is friendly to both boaters and home owners.

Still kind of an unkown paradise.

Please add to the list.

But you forgot the people on the lake. Our house is in a neighborhood with year rounders and they are the greatest neighbors. We know them better than we do those in our subdivision in Atlanta. I know there are some rubes that are inconsiderate but in general those that live or have 2nd homes on the lake really care about the quality of life.

Both of my immediate neighbors are fulltimers and are like family to me. The only time I talk to my neighbors in Atlanta is when I happen to stumble across them at the mailbox. My immediate neighbor next door comes over every night I am there, which is 4 nights a week, and asks me to dinner at least once a week. It is so, so different from suburban living in Atlanta.

i think many residents/weekenders just start getting loose or un-wired as soon as they get close to LM. Most (not all) are able to briefly forget about stress, busy schedules, pressures, and just relax. And, good things happen when they do. To themselves and their neighbors.

I had some friends from Iowa and Orlando visit two months ago, and they are still talking about Lake Martin and their visit.

Of course, it was a little cooler then.

Good point to everyone about good neighbors and now friends for life.

For us it is a place to relax and unwind, it is still possible to find those secluded areas, lie down on the sunpad and listen to the SMALL waves hitting the hull - there has never been a better sleep aid....

1. Clean, deep water.
2. Good Fishing, and fish are safe to eat.
3. Not a Corps of Engineers-run lake.
4. Nice place to relax and unwind.
5. Still lots of undeveloped shoreline remaining.
6. Something for everyone (i.e. restaurants).

1. Getting up in the morning, walking outside and hearing nothing but the birds and the ocassional fish jumping.
2. At night listening to the froggy chorus.
3. Seeing the fish swimming over the underwater lights. I'll never forget the night I saw those shad circling above the light.
4. Being able to actually see the stars.
5. Going out on the pontoon boat in early morning and not seeing another boat.
6. The wildlife.

It's carrying my five year old Daughter to a little sandy beach to play(she pretends we are on a lost island). Whiles she plays I will do a walk around and check everything on the pontoon. It never fails, while checking around the engine and prop area someone will stop and not proceed till I give the thumbs up signal. This is a really good feeling that almost every boater on the lake will be concerned about our safety.
