During the latter part of October, 6 inches off rain fall had almost no impact on Smith Lake water level. In fact, from Oct, 2010, to present is thee best control of water level that I have seen in my 16 years on the lake.

Now, let's see what happens during the last part of November with greater than 5 inches of rain fall (11/29 and 11/30).

Well my best estimate is "The same as every year."

We have had our place on the lake since 1974 and every year the lake goes down. We have to chase water It's not that big of deal.

I dont just come up for the summer I'm here all the time and on the lake for fishing or wakeboarding in the winter.

They did a better job of keeping the water up this past summer. I think they are tring to fix the problem.

You just don't give up..... Last month, it hadn't rained in two months.... You think that the water couldn't be absorbed into the dry watershed area, because of? Who knows.... I guess you're a master enevironmentalist that knows it all.... Now that we've had some rain last month and saturated the ground, this time the water does make its way to the lake... Guess what? No aliens took your water this time around! You guys must have nothing better to do in life but complain about how Alabama Power runs it's business... How much seasonal water front do you own?

Come on IVAN! I would have thougght that you would have known that all property on Smith Lake is seasonal.Each property shoreline sees water fluctuations due to rain fall and actions by APC. Look at the water curves rather than your astrology papmlet and you can also be an expert. Then you would not have to throw out your comments on absorbance and ailens and live in the real world of Smith Lake Property owners..

I don't think the water had dropped much below 500 feet for almost two years now. Imagine that. A coincidence that it just started raining regularly after the drought. Give it a rest. In fact, don't. I enjoy reading and laughing at your posts. :)

It's fun to read the same old rhetoric from the good ole boys that think it's OK for this beautiful body of water to be managed as it is. To stay at the same water level with low variability from Oct. 20 to Nov.30 with 6 inches of rainfall is unheard of. And then, to suddenly move 2 feet with5 inches in less than 2days. Something has changed. Go back and analyze the curves for this year. Everyone who wants higher water levels is not crazy.

Dude. Like I said, it's been over 500' for two years. Is that not good enough for you? I have way too much water already... I wish it were LOWER so I could clean up my shoreline. I wish it were lower so I could put in the riprap I've been wanting to put in over the last two years.

But hey, it'll get down there eventually. It just amazes me... you just want MORE, MORE, MORE... for what? I don't get it?

Would you prefer it be at 510' all year round? Why? Explain that to me. Why??

What a bunch of crap. Your lot must be a cliff or you would see exposed shoreline.

YES to a higher level year round. To drop water level 10 feet to clean a shoreline is ridiculous. Take Gorgas out of the equation for water level and we will be happy with whatever happens.

As someone already wrote, not all areas had received 6 inches during that earlier period. In fact, I heard no mention of potential downstream flooding on the news during that weather period. However, this week, I did see warnings about flooding and thus I was not surprised that levels jumped 2' in response to the recent rain that likely covered a greater area in a more consistent, but perhaps less than 6", fashion.

Given the lack of rain during the last half of this year, the current lake level is not surprising nor concerning to me.

I'm glad that terms like Rule Curve, Gorgas, etc. are etched in your memory and a few others on this forum who were satisfied with the Status Quo prior to two years ago. Did the opposition to the permitting process with FERC result in change?

Some of the commentators on the forum remind me of the situation prior to the November election. Attempts were made to define members of the Tea Party as un American, Racists, etc. because they wanted change. Don't rock the boat - Be satisfied with what you have - don't dare take off the blinders - this is not our lake - We might pis% off APC and they would not let us use their lake - FERC will not listen to the little guy.

Without the efforts of a few with a deep interest in the quality of life on Smith lake, we would have seen water levels of 494 feet or less and several property owners would have easy access to shorelines. They might also enjoy seeing the pretty stumps in the water and might consider the development of obstacle courses for our grand kids while the water is at 496 in August to see if they could navigate the stump fields. Never mind that they might have been maimed or killed. How dare we ask a major utility to consider a cooling sources other than the deep waters of Smith lake.

I still submit that water level control for the period 10/20 thru 11/30 of this year was fantastic. Look at the blown up portion of the curve for this period and it is practically flat. Something changed! What?
