Today, the New Oxford American Dictionary declared "refudiate" the top word in 2010 — a verb that Palin apparently invented.

You are obsessed with her. Get over it ... she has a much, much, higher popularity rating than Obama, is a better leader and may be your next president. It will be nice to have a christian american back in the white house.

The handwriting is on the wall for civil servants and their union if GOV Palin ever gets to be PRES Palin.  (Why do civil servants need a union anyway?)

I hear much being made about Unions for civil service, but to be honest, in 32 years I worked for the government I never saw a thing the union did for us.  I never belonged and no one I knew ever belonged; and quite frankly, those that were involved with the Unions seemed to be in it for personal gain.

I know it is quite popular right now to bash civil servants, but it is not right for civil servants to bear the brunt of frustrations about the government.  Most are hard working and put up with a lot of frustration --- a new crop of clueless political appointees who come in with an agenda, without any understanding of government.  If the bosses don't seem to have much leverage over the employees, the employees don't have any leverage over the bosses either, and as a result, can end up with some pretty abusive situations that no one in industry would tolerate.  And yes, it would appear that on average salaries are high, keep in mind that under Clinton/Gore "reinventing" government the administrative and journeyman level jobs were ooutsourced to support contractors "to save money" (but in fact, it doesn't save anything).  So the people that are left are well educated and bring a lot of experience.  When they are coming up with the average salary, there are no longer low paid people in the mix.  Almost no one has administrative assistants who are government employees and they haven't had any clerks in years.  All of the miltiary base operations are done by contractors now and most of the security.  So when you hear that the average salary is high, there aren't any lower salaried people to bring the average down, like in private industry.

I will say that I think the grade structure has gotten over-inflated over a period of time.  It started back in the Reagan years and has gone on from there.   There has been a proliferation of SES positions -- they used to be quite rare and only went to the top managers.  I know in the Pentagon there are some SES positions that aren't even supervisory.   SES positions are the ones that can go up to $170K a year, and there bonus structure is much more generous than the normal workforce, being a percentage of their salary.  I've seen SES bonus around $25K a year.

For months and months you chastised Obama for being a member for years of the Christian church of Rev Wright. Now, you chastise him being a Muslim. As an attorney and CPA, one would expect a more intelligent and logical discourse. Maybe, you are really just a turtle hunter.

not sure what a turtle hunter is ... and I am glad you keep track of my profession ... at least I don't lie and not ashamed of my hard work and success. Now you would never win in court ... where did I say in the post above Obama was a Muslim. Sorry, you can only deal with the stated facts.

You are indeed correct. It was not mentioned in the post. Can one, therefore, conclude that you believe he is a Christian? Or, that he is a Muslim??? Let me answer that for you..... Name:  water_watcher Subject: Think About This Date: 12/29/2009 8:42:58 AM Since BO is a Muslim, it would be against his religion to sentence a fellow Muslim to death. So he was a christian when he attended Wright's church and you chastised him for that. Now, that Wright is no longer an issue you decided to call him a muslim and chastise him for that. Maybe, during his recent trip to India he became Hindu. Or when he visited S. Korea he became a buddist. I was wondering why he skipped going to Israel. Now, we now.

Why do you "think" he was a Christian when he attended Wrights "church"??? Wow ... you would be killed in a deposition or cross examination.

BTW ... you can find many pictures of Obama in muslim clothes praying ... including at the WH. He was listed as a muslim as a child when registered in school, he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia (as president). Fishy ... there is much more to support he is a muslim than a christian ... sitting in a "church" (I would not call it that) listening to a anti american preacher, does not make him a christian .... if anything may support he is a muslim listening to that crap and supporting wright and calling him a friend.

Remember this picture? Using your logic, Bush would not be eligible for military service under Don't Ask Don't Tell. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/27/eveningnews/main691413.shtml
