Is it not interesting how this successful CEO (look at GE’s stock plunge) is part of Obama’s financial team. Rather than Immelt, Jack Welch would have been a super choice. Oh well!

Limbaugh: Obama 'In Bed With' General Electric

The appointment of General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt to lead an economic advisory panel called the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness prompted talk show host Rush Limbaugh to suggest that President Obama may be involved in "serious insider dealing" with GE.

Limbaugh said Friday that the Obama administration expanded the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) in order to bail out GE. "Congress needs to really look into this," Limbaugh said.

“A lot of people saying that this really needs to be investigated,” Limbaugh said on his Friday show. “General Electric and Obama are in bed with each other. General Electric got gobs of TARP money. They got stimulus money.

They don't need it. General Electric didn't need any of that money. General Electric has been in bed with Obama on this green energy garbage.
MSNBC, the NBC networks go green many weeks a year, with their graphics and all this other stuff.

“And they've used government money to create this green energy division that they have. And they're behind these compact fluorescent light bulbs,” Limbaugh continued. “They run NBC and MSNBC at a steep loss in order to give Obama his own cheerleading news network, and this CEO ends up on an advisory board now.

Limbaugh then added, citing a Washington Post story, "Let me summarize this [Washington Post] story for you. TARP was expanded by Obama for GE, which did not qualify as a bank. Remember, now, TARP was to bail out banks. TARP was expanded by Obama for GE, which didn't qualify as a bank. GE's bank became the top beneficiary of TARP funds. Jeffrey Immelt involved here."

I don't disagree that jack welch would have been a better choice.  But GE only used TARP in their GE Capital division and were one of the first to pay it back.  They even said at the time, they did not need it, but took it just in case things got much worse and did not impact their other divisions.

GE is selling NBC Universal to Comcast and I believe it closes tomorrow.  But I do agree NBC and MSNBC have both had a liberal stance, and Comcast is very conservative company and would bet that is why Oberman is gone.

On the CFL bulbs ... GE lobbied against them since they were only made in China and have mercury.  They wanted holgen and LED bulbs which are both on the market competing against CFL.

I have been a long time investor in GE (and rather sizable), so I felt the pain through the down turn ... but it is finally looking up and they are raising their dividend.

Inmelt has on his agenda to allow multinational companies to bring cash back to the US that they earned in another country without the double taxation .... this will create jobs in the US and help US companies.  Just another thing Obama was against and now acting like a republican and agreeing to.

I agree with Rush on a lot of things ... but have to say he seems off the mark on this one.

The reason Welch was most likely not choosen or even considered is he was a huge Obama supporter and endorsed him for president.  Welch admitted he is a republican but felt Obama was the right choice.

After the Obama and congress take over of america, their reckless spending, failed policies, unwillingness to listen to the american people and downright irrogance .... Welch came out against Obam and said he was a huge mistake and that we needed the change in congress to "save" the country.   He said many other things how Obama's lack of experience and socialist views were on a path to totally destroy this country.

So even though he would have been a great choice, I doubt Obama would have wanted Jack sitting there advising him, or Jack could have done it after expressing his feelings about Obama and that he was a huge mistake for this country.

From 1954 to 1962, Ronald Regan was the spokeman for GE. http://www.ge.com/reagan/video.html
