The art of negotiation is to ask for more and accept what you really want so the other side feels they won. Obama asks for 1.7 trillion but is really willing to accept less. Republicans yell whoa that is too much, we'll agree to 1 trillion. Both sides win.

Sounds like my negotiations with my customers......if they really need 6 pounds of security I tell them they need 10, fight like he!! for 7, and finally - begrudgingly - settle for 6. They never kenew they'd been had.

Something tells me though, that any time you have to talk in trillions something is significantly foxtrot uniform.

And besides, using your warped logic the GOP is even smarter. Their opening salvo was no tax hikes whatsoever. They will agree to higher revenue but not a rise in rates.
