Subject:   Crime in Seattle is up...surprise, surprise

So the Seattle police are telling the leftist politicians that things are headed downward for the downtown area as a result of the legalization of pot.  Well duh!  And the businesses in downtown Seattle are starting to complain about the crime, homeless dope smokers and how it is adversely impacting their businesses.  Well duh!

Seeing many of the same problems in Colorado.  These stupid, ignorant politicians learn nothing from the experience of other parts of the world that have gone this route (i.e., Amsterdam) with legalizing dope smokers.  I always get a good laugh listening to the rationale and lack of logic of potheads promoting legalization and decriminalization.......

In 1971, I was team chief (E-5) for an early-morning radiosonde mission (weather balloon with instrument package). To meet the nationwide launch window, at 0400 I would get up and drive around the housing and barracks of Yuma Proving Ground to pick up the other four members of my team. ONE of them was a pot smoker (who never managed to get beyond PV1). I would simply enter his quarters and roll him off his mattress on the floor where he and his wife were sleeping… usually naked. Then I would order him to get dressed. I made sure he had his security badge around his neck. - - One morning I could not coax him past his nasty jockey shorts. I was FURIOUS! So, I hung his security badge around his neck and led him to the vehicle. “Far out, man… righteous!” None of his team mates uttered a word as the half naked, half stoned private blundered into the vehicle. The launch site was in the high-security area of the YPG test range. I have no doubt that you can picture what happened when we drove up to the security post. - - From that moment on, my team was one man short. To launch, track, and receive and analyze radiosonde data takes FIVE technicians. The message needs to be on the queue when Ashville center calls your number. The operation needs two to launch and close-in track, one to receive and record data, one to work the winds aloft board, and one to prepare the Skew T/Log P chart for the airfield. One of the launch crew shifts to coding the NWC message and loading it into the queue. - - The YPG Met detachment commander was FURIOUS with me. I never got a replacement for PV1 Richardson. AND, I would be subject to disciplinary action if Ashville filed a complaint. PV1 Richardson was assigned to the post library… until he went AWOL for good. My team NEVER failed… we were used to doing it with only four competent people. We used to shove him out the door right after the launch… hoping he’d wander on out into the desert. - - I have no problem putting dope use and users in perspective.

Good story but alot of work to send up a balloon. If that were your mission today, the pothead could sleep late with his naked babe and you could check MSNBC for the weather.

(The previous technical explanation should have been ALL past tense. I am sure the whole routine is automated now... um... except for the launch.)

His "naked babe" could have been... well... at least cute. But she was always too stoned (or bummed out) to care for herself. As I recall, they both had "body odor." I NEVER saw their baby girl in anything but diapers. They had no real furniture... but a h3ll of a (reel-to-reel) stereo system on board-and-cinder-block shelves. I assume they had enough kitchen ware to make brownies. - - The rest of the story: He ran off to Canada. You could dodge the draft in Canada... but not desertion. Her father, managed to learn when and where he was crossing the border of Vancouver to see her. He "arranged" for the military police to attend the meeting. I don't know the UCMJ outcome of that. I was on orders to Germany at the time.

Having grown up in the 70s and knowing far too many people who never grew up from their pot smoking I can tell you that none I know that still get stoned are very productive. And those are the lucky ones that didn't graduate to harder drugs. The smart ones figured out that pot was bad for you and stopped or at least had to quit in order to keep a job. Whether legal or not we will drug test and I won't ever hire someone that smokes pot. I can enjoy one or two glasses of wine with zero inebriation but there is only one reason to smoke pot, and that is to get stoned. You watch, the problems in Colorado and Washington are just beginning. Smart people should move out now before they are overrun with crime and stoned potheads driving all over the place.
