One of McCain's proudest moments.
Back in the old days, defendants in famous trials got numbers -- the Chicago Eight, the Gang of Four, the Dave Clark Five, the Daytona 500. McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.
Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)
Though he was not convicted of anything, McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

Amazing isn't it .... his reply made absolutely no sense and was not even relavent to the original post. I really struggle if these liberals are that dumb or do they really think they have a point and just do not know how to convey it.
Watch the video I posted above. Listen to how intellegent the republicans sound and then listen to the democrats saying the republicans do not know what they are talking about ... which obviously they did since what they warned about has now come true.
They were praising Raines as an exceptional CEO and we need more of these loans, they hammered on the regulator as the messenger that he was crying wolf ... then said maybe the regulator is the problem and we should just get out of the way and let them do their work. The poor guy looked shocked like wanted to say what is a matter with you people.

When you don't have any facts on your side you grasp at whatever. You see, the Keating mess is not really a skeleton because everyone knows about it. Gosh, using GF's approach by innuendo Obama is a terrorist, convicted felon and America-hating preacher. Thanks GF! I'll take McCain's attachment to a scandal of 25 years ago to all of Obama's recent relationships. Good idea!
