My first choice as the Democratic candidate was Bill Richardson.

Who was your first choice?

I'd have voted for Lieberman. Oh wait - he isn't a Democrat any more.

Do you want to know Republican side? Mine was Romney. McCain was probably 3rd.

After McCcain won the nomination, I expected he was going to select Romney for VP because of his strong economic background.

I really had no idea but thought Romney would have been a good choice. I think he dreaded the "you said this or that about McCain in the primaries" similar to what Palin did to Biden. My view is that most people understand that what is said in criticism in the primaries tends to fade away although it is uncomfortable to have to defend someone you savaged weeks or months before.

In hindsight, I would love to have seen Romney debate Biden on economic issues but the fact of the matter is most people do not vote for or against the VP choice. I think this election is no different. Palin motivated conservatives that were lukewarm to McCain and got him to 3-4 points ahead of Obama. If it were not for the economic issues taking center stage (which always benefits Dems although I can't understand why.....just as security issues benefit Republicans) I think we would be within the margin of error and the electoral college would be close to a tie or a small Obama advantage.

If the economic issues fade over the next few weeks it will be a close election. If not, Obama will win. If the former occurs and the media begins to do their job and tells the American people who Obama really is McCain will win by a very slim margin. If not then Obama wins and we shall see if he is the change people thought they wanted. You can quote me, but I think the change we will get with Obama/Reid/Pelosi will be a disaster for the country that will take decades to reverse, if ever.

At least with divided government they might do limited harm.
