Do liberals actually believe that conservative opinions are pornography?

Are liberals so threatened that they're plotting and planning right now, at this very minute, to silence conservative thoughts and opinions from the public airwaves?

You be the judge.

FOX News asked Senator Chuck Schumer if liberals in Congress will try to implement the so-called Fairness Doctrine - a measure specifically designed to shut down Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and conservative talk radio.

Schumer replied indignantly:

"Do you think we should allow people to put pornography on the air? Absolutely not. Particularly on television or radio."

Huh? No, it's NOT a joke! And he didn't stop there.

Schumer nastily admonished decent Americans for some imagined hypocrisy:

"The very same people who don't want the Fairness Doctrine want the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] to limit pornography on the air.... That's not consistent."

It's almost beyond belief.

From June 2008: Sen. Obama does not support reimposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible. That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets.

Now, President Obama may change his mind unless you and the Right start to fall in line and behave yourselves.

GF, the problem is not what Obama says he is going to do. The problem is what Pelosi/Reid/Frank/Shumer..... are going to do and will Obama go along or not. If you look at his record of NEVER going against liberal orthodoxy then you should not be encouraged. The fact is that Obama promised more tax cuts than McCain. Congress has no intention of cutting taxes and Obama will go along.

Its not what he says, it is what he will go along with. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I have seen a shred of evidence from what he has done that would remotely encourage me.

Hard to believe that this would be the most pressing problem facing the new Administration. Schumer must have his head up his butt.

There was a big stink in Washington a couple of years ago about the same kind of thing, but it was the Bush Administration saying that they were going to shut down National Public Radio for broadcasting opinions conflicting with the Administration. Nothing ever happened except a lot of talk.

Are you completely out of your mind? Do you not understand the balance of powers set by our founding fathers? This was designed to keep anyone from having too much power. The power is suppose to be for the will of the people. We do not all agree. We will support what we agree with, and we will fight and fight hard for what we disagree with! This IS the American way!

Shut down NPR?????? Excuse me, but the only debate has been about federal funding of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting which provides a portion of the its funds to NPR as well as many other organizations. This is a debate that has been going for a long, long time. The fact is that NPR cannot compete in the arena and so they have to live off the public dole. The reason why I don't listen to public radio or watch public TV (or support them financially) is that they are so biased to the left that I am uninterested in their leftist propaganda. And apparently not enough leftists are willing to support NPR either so they have to suckle off the government to stay in business.

Here's a thought, why not provide programming that people want to watch so they will support them financially? Oh wait, that would actually result in them watering down their left wing message. If you can't compete, then change or go out of business! Why should the federal government prop up failing broadcast companies? I can only imagine your howls of outrage if the federal government gave Fox News Channel millions of dollars each year.

I support NPT because I enjoy their programming. I used to listen to NPR -- realizing that they had a very left bias, but they would have intesresting programs on Science and other topics not routinely addressed on the radio. Commuting in the DC traffic, I used to spend quite a lot of time in my car. I think just because you listen to something doesn't mean you have to buy into it all the way. I think it is interesting to listen to a wide variety of programming. Although I generally do not agree with Rush Limbaugh, I have listened to him at times.
