Is our government throwing money in the stock market to make it look like we are coming out of recession ? It sure is strange that the market is going up and yet businesses are closing .

The markets are generally driven by expectations of future improvement as opposed to today's circumstances. They respond to the news of the day as they think it portends the future. That's why the markets move more in relation to "analysts" and "expert's" estimates more than the actual news itself. That's why most of us without the time to do the serious research have to rely on the 7% return over time, dollar cost averaging approach to investing in the stock market and then pray you don't need or have to take out the money during a correction.

I think the general consensus is that despite this recession not being much worse than the last two big ones, while the recovery has been really slow due to the nature of the correction (the meltdown in the financial markets and the feckless response from the government) we are seeing gradual improvement. They are betting we are near or past the bottom.

Manipulative trading by Goldman Sachs and others has made the stock market a very dangerous place. Stocks can be manipulated to the point that reason is gone, so the rules of the analysts and experts don't apply. Watch the manipulation of crude oil prices in the commodities markets and learn. Crude prices have little to do with supply and demand and a lot to do with speculators.
