New to the area spent a ton of money for property and a home on douglass lake. Why is it, the TVA drains douglass lake down so far, This is a fantastic area next to one of the most visited national parks in the nation. Why don't they leave the lake level up. with all the visitors this could add millions to the county coffers in sales, new buisnesses taxes ETC, not to mention the property values. I think all the lake owners deserve answers.

Don't know specifically for Douglas but most, if not all of these lakes were ostensibly constructed for power generation and flood control. Many are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and have specific lake level rules per their operating permit. They are required by permit to drop lake levels in the fall and the only way they can avoid that is to obtain a waiver from FERC which is no small undertaking. My suggestion is to find out when that permit is up for renewal and petition TVA to ask for a change to the water level rule to raise winter pool, delay the dropping, etc. All those are on the table for the re-licensing of Lake Martin which is controlled by Alabama Power.

Now you guys have to put up with some serious changes. Looks like a high around 994' in Apr 2010 and a low of about 945' at the low in the 2007 drought. Hope you knew about the level changes before you bought. I think TVA uses that lake to replenish the navigation part of the Tennessee River.
