I've linked to an analysis that I think sums up how I felt about last night's press conference: "Huh?"

He's just proving what most have said from the beginning; he's an empty suit. He also did as expected when in trouble. He played the race card. How stupid.

I've been thinking Hound. (Scary thought huh?). I remember during campaigns how the Dems would consistently attempt to woo the elderly vote with scare tactics any time the Repubs brought up Social Security reform. It worked every time. If the Repubs were smart, they would utilize these same tactics during this healthcare debate. This plan will do nothing more than ration healthcare from the elderly and give it to the 40 yo uninsured/illegal individual. Monetarily, manpower wise, there is simply no other choice. Scary....

What bothered me most about last night's press conference was that it appeared that he is rationalizing adding to the deficet. No matter where you sit in the political spectrum, adding to the deficet is just wrong.

Well, we listened to the entire thing. If I ever hear the word 'incentivise' again I will absolutely scream.

On the other hand, while most of what he said was double-talk and blaming Bush for this mess, there were 2 points I think worthy of thought. 1) There should be a way to have a medical test once and those results be passed along to every doctor you need to see instead of having each doctor run the tests again. It is a waste, and it happens all the time (we've experienced it ourselves). 2) Pre-existing conditions should not prevent someone from getting insurance.

Other than these, I pretty much got nothing from the hour I wasted listening to the drivel. Bottom line is BO has no clue, Congress has no clue, and we have a huge mess.

I did think it interesting that his cherry-picked questions (were these pre-determined?) did not address at all unemployment and no new job creation - which is the real problem everyone is worried about.

I don't think he cherry picked questions. They have a list ahead of time of who they will call on and it is usually a mix of media outlets. But, it was a press conference on health care. And there was that question at the very end about the Harvard professor that was arrested.

I loved his word "incentivize". It made me miss Washington where everyone adds "ize" to everything. LOL.

Guess you have to be there to appreciate it. I believe by choosing ahead of time who would ask the questions, he did direct the questions to an extent. He only got a couple of mild surprises regarding the content of the questions.

I also think that a lot of conservatives that voted for him and the 'change' are now coming to realize the mistake. Not saying "I told you so", and not really glad that things aren't improving for us all, but we are in a real mess and BO and Congress are digging a deep, deep hole that will be difficult for us to climb out of.

It is a shame that he didn't give specifics last night, and to me only goes to show he doesn't have a clue.

I agree we're in a mess, but I don't believe it is all Obama's doing. And I agree that he is digging our hole deeper. I would like to see him set aside the issue of health care until later in the Administration. It scares me a bit, because in Washington, things take on a life of their own. When the President says "I want" then everyone gets into a panic about getting it done, and what you get is "a" product, but not necessarily the "best" product that you might get with sufficient debate and thought. The "Abilene Paradox" is alive and well in the government.

This is when I wish we had more balance in the Congress. I think we probably do need to do "something" with health care, but ramrodding something new through for the sake of making a change is not the answer. And even Obama admitted during the press conference that it would be unlikely that 100% of people would be covered. I'd like to think that his staff is paying attention to the polls that say 50% of people don't like what he is doing with health care, but I fear they are not. People get in the WH, and they get more focused on their "legacy" than what makes sense.
