For you non-residents it's 3 days in the mid to low 20's. Maybe lower? The best defense against water disasters is to cut the water off leave the heat on and open the cabinets. Or you can let the water drip slowly and make the water dept happy. Don't forget outside faucets.

Water has been cut off, pipes drained, heat on, no problem. I actually turn my water off each time I leave for the week, that way I don't return on Friday evening to a big expensive mess.

Same here. Popped a pipe last year - was lucky it was outside.
