This may have been discussed before, if so, I apologize. Does gas at our marinas on Lake Martin have the 10% ethanol?

As of last Summer Russell Marines still had gas.

My suggestion is to always check with your marina each year as over the winter months you never know they might have had gas last year and this year ethanol, so I would call and check.

I think all marinas on the lake stay away from ethanol, but Old Mav has a good point (ask the question). There are also stations around the lake that don't sell gas with ethanol.... Nails on 63 and Eagle in Red Hill are two that I know of.

The station at the River Bridge on 280 does not contain Ethanol.

For those of you who travel to the lake via I-85 and use 280 west - about 1/4 of a mile off I-85 going west on 280, there is a LIberty gas station on the right with a large sign saying - we sell gas with no ethanol. I saw it last weekend when we were there so the information is current.

Good news and that is fairly new....they did have ethanol in their gas last fall when I stopped there.

I find it funny that ya'll actaully believe what the gas station owners tell you. They probebly don't even know what they are getting. Boat engines have been able to run with a 10% ethonal blend for years. As long as you don't have a fiberglass thank you are fine.

You can get a simple ethanol tester to be sure. They are available on the internet.

The ethanol blended gasoline burns hotter and cleaner, and reduces fuel economy, whether measured in mpg or gph, by approximately 8%. I can't speak to 2 cycle engines, although some of the repair type forum members can. I know my small engine repair folks in Opelika tell me not to use the blend in my leaf blowers or edger. Regarding 4 cycle engines, the downside to using the ethanol blend is the absorption of moisture. Straight gas and water separate. The ethanol absorbs water. 5 gallons of water in a 10,000 gallon tank will render 10% ethanol blended gas useless. The engines won't start. If you are going to burn through a tank in a couple or 3 weeks, no harm, other than using 19.5 gph vs. 18. Should your tank last any longer than 3 weeks, you may be asking for trouble. The Liberty stores in the AO area are comparatively low retail gas volume and really have no choice but to offer straight gas.

By law they are required to put a sticker on there pumps if the gas has ethanol in it.

but ethanol doesn't go into my boats or power equipment. It also doesn't go into my cars anymore, unless absolutely necessary, because of the lower energy content. I've been getting about 7% better mileage in my Suburban when using gas without ethanol (I just finished with a test where I tracked mileage for 6 straight fill-up's using each).

Ethanol will run my stuff, but not as well as gas and gas doesn't have the negative side effects....the chemistry and science involved speaks for itself.

Gabby, you are right about the pump stickers. Mine say "May contain up to 10% Ethanol". This time last year, and up until around mid summer, there was no wholesale price advantage to ethanol, so, even though my pumps were stickered, I was pumping straight gas. Since mid summer, the price advantage has shifted to the blend, and that is what I buy and sell.
