Some may like to follow this. It is a link to my Nam unit. Lamar If you follow this small web site you might find things interesting. There are many veterans still needing your help. The VA is offering very limited help to veterans of the Viet Nam era. I had one of my comrades call me Easter Sunday Evening. We had not met or talked in over 40 years. He is having both hearing problems and a knee problem. He is now 67 years old and the VA has disapproved his claims for a small disability. He and I were both blown off an Armored Personnel Carrier (different times) in Nam. His claim is that he suffered sever hearing loss from the explosion and the injury to his leg as a result of the explosion and the concussion to his leg. The same has happened to me. The VA routinely disapproves such claims unless they can find a service connected disability at time of separation linked back to the incident or established as time of your separation physical. He has asked me as a fellow comrade to help him justify his claim which has already been disapproved once. This man was my Company Commander. I was a lieutenant. I have filed two clams though the the Va which have been disapproved. One for agent orange exposure (Systemic Hear Disease) and the other for hearing Loss though combat operations. All of the above stated, what are your thoughts. We need some help. Lamar

First of all I want to thank you both for your service to our country and our freedoms with that being said don't give up and stay the course until you get justifiable results. My Father was wounded in Nam on his second tour which nearly killed him, and when he was well enough sent him back for a third tour. He tried for many years to get his disablity from his injuries and finally got them on his death bed which he never knew about. My Mother is living a little better due to this coming though just before his death. He was very active with the American Legion and I believe the Legion commander helped with him getting his disablity. That may help if you pursue this option. I hope the best for you both, and may God bless.

Feb, my oldest brother served in Vietnam and lives in a VA hospital in Virginia (quadraplegic) and his injury was not related to combat. I don't understand at all why they would deny your disability claim while paying for all his care. Don't know if it would work, but how about contacting your representative and both Senators? Just seems wrong to me for people that served and were injured have their claims denied.

happened.  I didn't delete it intentionally.  Let's try again.

The VA expanded coverage in 2009, I believe, for agent orange to all Vietnam veterans who served in country between specified dates. Coverage is for agent orange related diseases and there was a cut off date for sign up.
I applied, was approved, and hearing aids were furnished by the VA, but I don't feel I qualify for any service connected disability, so I haven't applied.  Veterans in this category have to pay for services, or prove needy status; VA files with Medicare, supplemental insurance, etc.

The VA takes a hard stance on "service connected" claims because it opens them up to disability pension claims, full health care, etc.  My guess is a veteran who waits 45 years to file is looked at very closely, and the VA says no before they read the application.  Good luck.
