You might want to also get an extimate for a GeoStone wall and compare it with you other bids.

We just had a 274' concrete seawall built by Henderson and Coker out of Alex. City and they did an exceptional job. We had three others bid it and were more confidant contracting with H & C. They are not the cheapest, but they are probably the best. 256-329-9001. They did exactly what we contracted for and more. Tell them Morgan and Celia referred them.

You may also want to consider Concrete Walls, Inc. They constructed seawalls in the Craddock subdivision on Manoy Creek. They've also done work at the Ridge.

If are you referring to Craddock: I don't recall seeing block walls on any of the construction there. The seawalls are poured concrete.

Just to respond to the many additional questions. I am doing a retaining wall which is in close proximity to my house. The wall will vary in height but most of it is close to 12 ft. I got quotes from Henderson and Coker and another concrete wall source, and they were both slightly less expensive than GeoStone. Neither concrete wall was stamped or stained (colored). I decided on GeoStone since it was only slighly more expensive, has a nice pattern or look, comes in the choice of 7 colors and is considered as sturdy if not better than a concrete wall in structural strength. I beleve Geo has actually put in walls well over 50 ft. high.
The cost for my job with GeoStone is $21,00 per foot. Therefore, I would guestimate the plain concrete was close to $20 per foot for my effort,, but there is a difference in jobs to include excavation differences and difficulty to access the spot or location of the wall.
In my case, I had a strong preference for the appearance along with the strength.
This appears to be a good time for a good price. One contractor said he had 20 jobs lined up, and all but 7 have been delayed by tthe custormers. He stated they were all developers holding due to the current slow market.

I think you are referring to the development next to Craddock. I have not seen the homesites. I can only see the seawall construction and site prep from the lake side. It appears they did some type cement brick pattern on the seawalls. I didn't realize they were that far along with constructing actual homesites.

Feb you are a very thorough guy but I once had a company that put in these walls and I can tell you that you should read up on all the specs for the installation before it happens.
These walls can go in and if not properly tied back and fabric compacted just right it can look good for a while then poof! You ever see the fireworks building wall on I-85? The higher the wall, the higher the risk.

Good points all RR.....I looked at wooden, Geo Stone and poured and finally went with the poured wall. Didn't like the emphasis the salesman had to put on the need for near perfect footing/foundation for the long term survival, coupled with the fact I am in a very busy and narrow area of Blue Creek. Knowing Feb, he will get that right from the get-go.

Thanks RR. I did look at several Geo walls prior to making my decision. There are also a number of them in Wetumpka that are many times the height and length of my planned wall. Concrete is also going to fail if you do not put in the proper deadmen. Yes, all these walls may fail over time. I doubt if it will happen in my lifetime.
The area to be excavated behind my wall will go back as much as 8 ft.
Like I said, I could of gone with concrete for less money. The only problem is they would of just looked like a concrete wall.
I do not think GeoStone would be able advertise the structuual strength of their product if it were not true. Their hand would of been called a long time ago.
I would like to hear if you or anyone actually knows of a problem with this product if properly installed. ????

We need a new wall too., The previous owner only walled half of the shoreline and with the increased boat traffic we are losing land fast. I was told that Russell Lands did not allow Geostone on Russell properties. Does anyone know if this is true and if so why? Thanks.
