I have only been on the lake for a few years, so I need to know if I am wrong? We were driving our boat in the water heading from harbor point to I believe the bridge (that you need a small boat to get under) on 49. Before the marina there is an island with water ways on both sides. We went even distance between the island and the houses on the right of the boat. The people that own the houses were yelling to go to yhe left, and I am not going to hit the island for anyone. If I am wrong their should no make bouy's there. If I am right then they should deal with the fact they live on deep water and that is how it is. We bought in a cove to avoid waves, so I nsay you can't have you deep water (cake) and eat it to.

Please let me know what is right.

From the map, the channel runs south of the island, so if you were headed East (towards 49 from the power lines), the right is the deeper choice.

It does not matter where you are on the lake,in a big slough, main channel,or a small cove you(we) are responsible for our own WAKE! So many of us forget that when we ride around looking at the beauty of the lake.

I always felt the need to idle through there. It is a congested area and speeding through it puts people at risk. Its the same as people buzzing around a cove or slough. Its unsafe.

Something about your question we don't know..........what was your speed and the size of wake you created? That was probably what they were "speaking" to you about, remember they are there 24 hours a day and see and feel every boat come by........ you just made a trip and couldn't feel their pain.

I am not familiar with the area, but as far as the navigation rules go, unless there is a prohibitive marker, you make the choice. Just mind the RoW, common sense and your wake.

Coming soon, hopefully in Alabama, is the 100 foot rule that will require idle speed within 100 feet of shoreline or structure. It's not going to be popular, but the increased water front and boat density across the state have generated a need to something to control wakes and speeds.

Marine Police can do as necessary to ensure safety on the water, safely.

Confused

Wish it was 100 yards. 100 feet is pretty darn close.

I don't know what they were yelling, but, that area can be very shallow in some spots. We almost grounded there years ago (at near full pool).

Just my thoughts.

Thats why I was in the middle of the area. They were ignorant people who want deep water, big lake view, and everyone else to not be near them. If thats what they want go to a quiet cove with a no wake sign.

I was reading an article about the new 100 foot rule and it did not sound as though it was going to happen. Supposedly the fishing industry got involved and that will be the end to that. I was reading an article saying that it would cause to much hardship due to many areas on the rivers that they would have to travel miles at an idle speed. The conclusion to the article read that they wanted to try to make the fisherman happy and they had not considered that as an issue. Any one else hear anything?

The very back of the cove...... Like the last house. From what I can see most people only care about their dock and boat. If you are in thge middle of the cove you will still get wakes and waves from all the people heading out to play. most only slow down when they are close to thier dock and could care less about yours. Just my Opinion
