Is there a rule on how far from your pier that you can anchor your boat?I have mine tied out about 50 feet in front of my pier.

Good question - mine is migrating outward as well. I hope we will be excused for this year if there really is a rule. My guess would be that as long as it doesn't present a hazard/inconvenience to others, it will be overlooked...

By law when your boat is anchored at night you have to display an anchor light. Common sense tells me that your boat is a hazard at night if it does not have an anchor light. The right lawyer would probably find you liable if someone hits your boat at night. I would check with the Marine Police on that one.

"All boats are required to display a white light visible from all directions whenever they are moored or anchored away from dock between sunset and sunrise."

Taken directly from Alabama Fish and Game's website. Your boat is a hazard unless you have your light displayed. You will be liable for any injuries or damages that are a result of a collision. The fact that the lake is low does exclude us from any laws or regulations.

Good points, PF. Mine is moored TO my dock and not AWAY from my dock, but I guess 50 feet out would be considered "away".

Before you pull it out, may want to consider just "leaving a light on for ya" at night for the times you really need it. I've got some family in from out of state and plan to do that for the rest of this week and weekend. With a two battery hookup and an old-ish battery I'm not worried about draining I think this will work fine. I haven't figured the draw for my anchor light over 10 hours, but it can't be much......
