I completely disagree. I am a serior executive at a company in Atlanta and one of the powers to be from Georgia Power is on our board. I was talking with him last week and commenting on how nice it is that the lake level is up and they are limiting power generation. He shared that less than 1% of power they generate is hydro. It is mainly used for peak demands and to regulate the flow in to the rivers so they generate power when they need to release water.

He said he sat in many meetings as part of Southern Company where their primary goal this year was to get the lake levels up no matter what. I think if you look at all Southern Company lakes you will see they are working toward full pool.

He had no reason to lie. They understand the importance of the lake for recreation as well as flood control. Power generation is a much smaller objective today. They are being good community citizens. I don't think we should bash them. Last year no one thought the drought would be so bad and they could not recover quick enough, then the water battle and required releases tied their hands.
